Ben helps keep software tested, PaladinGo™ going

If you’ve ever worked with Ben Chartraw, one of Paladin’s highly skilled technical support representatives, you’ve had the pleasure of talking with someone who knows Paladin’s software inside and out. In just three years with the company, Ben has become a cornerstone of the hardware support team while also stepping confidently into software testing and product management for PaladinGo™, the company’s mobile application.

“Primarily what I do is the testing for PaladinGo – checking out new features, new-hire training, and getting the webinars set up, all that kind of stuff,” he says, modestly summarizing the significant role he’s played in helping shape and grow the app.

PaladinGo transforms any mobile device into a powerful point-of-sale tool. With it, users can ring up transactions, check inventory and product details, create and review invoices, and monitor store and product performance right from their phone or tablet.

Ben began taking on responsibilities for PaladinGo shortly after becoming the company’s software quality specialist in the Bend, Oregon office. Whenever Paladin’s developers build a new feature or refine an existing one, Ben is one of the testers who puts it through a rigorous examination to ensure it meets Paladin’s standards before it becomes part of a PaladinPOS or PaladinGo release.

“I’m really excited about PaladinGo. The webinars have been going really well, which is very exciting. I think it’s something that people have been wanting. We get lots of feedback about what people want. I like hearing that kind of feedback,” he says.

Outside of Paladin, Ben has the vibe of an old soul wrapped in a twenty-something package. He enjoys trying new restaurants with his girlfriend, Sierra, and has built quite a sneaker collection. His tastes lean vintage – whether it’s clothing or classic TV like Seinfeld and Frasier. His favorite video game is Old School RuneScape, originally released in 2001. He’s even restoring an old bike as he gets back into cycling. And his cat Betty? She fits the theme perfectly.

“She’s kind of a terror. Has a kink in her tail that looks like a broken antenna, so I had to give her an old-fashioned name,” he jokes.

In his expanded role at Paladin, Ben has become a go-to resource for knowledge across the entire software suite.

“I really like it. I feel like I’m pretty good with time management—knowing and prioritizing what needs to be done,” he says. “I really enjoy the technical writing aspect of it as well. I’ve learned way more about every random module in Paladin than I probably ever would have any other way.”
