“First and foremost, we want to thank everyone that came out. We are truly blessed to have been a part of this great community! The outpouring of appreciation to those who attended, called, donated, and helped out was beyond our expectations,” Sam wrote in his blog.

Starrett & Son joins a group of two dozen Paladin client stores that have been in business for at least 100 years. The store has been with Paladin since 2020.

Clem's Hardware store owner Barbara Brown and her son Patrick, who serves as the store's general manager

Barb Brown and Patrick Brown run Clem’s Hardware which was started by Barb’s father Harold “Clem” Gross.

Clem’s Hardware Marks 50 years

In 1974, Harold “Clem” Gross was delivering dairy products door to door in Cass Lake, Minnesota, and looking for a change. By chance, he swapped professions with the local hardware store owner, and Clem’s Hardware was born. This year, his daughter Barbara and grandson Patrick are celebrating 50 years of serving the good people of Cass Lake.

It’s truly a family business.

“Over the years, five of Clem’s seven children worked at the store, and it’s been a source of work for grandkids through the years,” Patrick says.

Cass Lake is a pretty sleepy little town during Minnesota’s frigid winters, but in the summer, Cass Lake and the surrounding area have become a tourist destination. This year looks to be even more hectic as the store celebrates its golden anniversary.

Paladin clients Mitch and Hannah Stadtlander, owners of Cedar Mountain Country Store True Value in Duck Creek Village, Utah, were featured in HBS Dealer on April 6 when they attended the True Value Reunion in New Orleans in February.

The Stadtlanders took over the store from Mitch’s parents and because of its location near Zion National Park and 30 miles from the nearest big box or grocery store, it is the go-to place for locals and tourists alike. It sells just about everything from hardware to diapers. Paladin helps the couple manage their vast inventory, which is the focus of the story. Cedar Mountain Country Store True Value has been with Paladin since March. Read more
