Building customer loyalty in an age when<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">the coronavirus pandemic has more people shopping online, fewer venturing into stores, and more switching brands\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">has made the\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">difficult\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">chore even harder<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">A pair of reports conducted in 2020 show how drastically the pandemic affected shoppers\u2019 preferences.\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">A\u202fJuly r<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">e<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">port<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">,<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u202ffrom\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">the\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">communications firm Ketchum<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">,<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">showed that\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">45% of American shoppers\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">had\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">altered their brand preference\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">because of the pandemic closures and restrictions.\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">A month later,<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0a\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.mckinsey.com\/business-functions\/marketing-and-sales\/our-insights\/a-global-view-of-how-consumer-behavior-is-changing-amid-covid-19\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">report<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0from McKinsey &amp; Company showed that\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">the\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">number had grown to\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">75%.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Why the changes? Disruption in production caused by\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">factories and mills being shut down\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">affected\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">supply chains<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0at their roots.
